Three veteran roofs

Materials funded by Home Depot, labor through HBI Jacksonville's training program, and Morning Oil Coffee on site. Veterans keep their homes and apprentices get hours on a real build.

December 1–17

The toy drive

Collection boxes at retail locations across the city, plus “bring a toy, get a free beer” nights at The Block. The goal is to fill a 26-foot moving truck.

How it works

The Dozen

Twelve independent nominations put someone in front of our board. We are deliberately plain about what that does and does not mean.

Somebody says a name Anyone can nominate a person or a business. Five questions, about four minutes. It stays private — nothing appears on this site.
Twelve people agree Twelve independent nominations open a review. It does not release money. It puts a real person in front of our board with a verified need.
We ask them first Nobody is written about without being asked. Plenty of people accept help and would rather not be a story, and that is a perfectly good answer.
We pay the invoice Grants go to the contractor, the shop, the clinic — never as cash. Then we publish what was raised and what it paid for.
Said plainlyReaching twelve nominations opens a review. It is not a guarantee of funding, and not every review becomes a grant. We would rather tell you that here than bury it.

The board

Eleven people approve every grant. Not one person with a checkbook.

Gifts go to the general fund rather than to a named individual. That keeps your donation tax-deductible and lets the board move money to whoever the verification process says needs it most — including the people who accept help quietly.
